Vasectomy Procedures Recovery
Vasectomy procedures recovery is a very short time which may include some swelling and bruising of the scrotal sac. When the short 15 minute procedure is over your scrotum may be numb for an hour or two from the local anesthesia you will be given. You will be able to leave the office immediately following the vasectomy as long as there are no complications. Wearing tight fitting underwear or a jock strap for a couple days following the vasectomy procedure is suggested since this allows little movement of the point of access of the scrotal sac and Vas deferens.
Vasectomy procedures recovery may include taking Tylenol for minor pain associated with the vasectomy it is not advisable to have aspirin since it is a blood thinner and may lead to bleeding. Dr. Bianco and Dr. Gheiler will give you special instructions to follow after your vasectomy procedure. You can get swelling or bruising which is often created by bleeding under the skin. After the vasectomy procedure an infection on the surgical site of the scrotum can become infected. Infection can also occur under the skin but this is rare. As mentioned before recanalization can occur when the end of the Vas deferens grows back together. Sometimes sperm may leak out of the end of the Vas deferens and accumulate in the scrotum causing a lump to build up. This lump will often dissolve on its own over time and can be treated with pain medication. This lump is called a sperm granuloma and may need to be removed if it becomes too bothersome.
Vasectomy procedures recovery may include congestive epididymitis which is an inflammation of the tubes that carry sperm through the ejaculatory system. Our Urology Specialists are always available if you need to be seen again due to complications if bleeding, infection, bruising or pain following the vasectomy procedure although you will be give special instructions to follow before you leave the office.
Vasectomy procedures recovery will be over in a couple days but you can go back to your normal daily activities right away as long as they are not strenuous. While you can go back to an active sex life very quickly other kinds of birth control need to be used such as condoms, diaphragm, vaginal pouch, IUD, the pill, spermicides, hormones, and rhythm method although none of these birth control modalities have nearly as good a success rate as the vasectomy. Sex with a partner and masturbation do help clear out the sperm from your system so while rest is initially suggested just prior to the vasectomy procedure having orgasms needs to occur for sterility to happen.
